Introduction
Welcome to our signature diamond upgrade program. By participating, you agree to adhere to the following terms and conditions, designed to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
Shipping and Evaluation
- To participate in our diamond upgrade program, we will supply you with a fully insured prepaid shipping label for sending us your precious diamond.
- For diamonds set in jewelry, removal from the setting might be necessary for an accurate evaluation.
- Only diamonds of 0.70 carats (70 points) or larger are eligible for our program. Diamonds smaller than this threshold cannot be re-evaluated as part of our offering.
- Should a diamond not meet our program’s value requirements due to being fake, damaged, lab-grown, moissanite, zirconia, or lacking sufficient value, the client will be responsible for all related shipping costs. This includes the cost for the initial insured shipment to us and the secure return of the ineligible diamond.
Handling of Set Diamonds
- Diamonds set in jewelry may need to be removed for a thorough appraisal, ensuring they match their GIA certificate descriptions. We require your written consent before proceeding with any removal to avoid instances of fraud, which we strongly oppose.
- If you decide not to proceed with the upgrade after receiving our offer, we will re-set the diamond into the original piece of jewelry. Both the re-setting and round-trip shipping costs will be the client’s responsibility.
Policy on Gold Sales and Melee Diamond Valuation
If an agreement is reached to purchase your diamond and you decide to sell the gold from your old setting, we will offer a purchase price based on the current market rate for second-hand gold, priced per gram. Please note, if the gold setting includes melee diamonds, we will only purchase the gold, as melee diamonds do not hold resale value.
Melee Diamonds Explained: Melee diamonds are small diamonds, typically weighing less than 02 carats. They are often used to accent larger stones in jewelry settings, providing additional sparkle and aesthetic appeal. Despite their contribution to a piece's overall beauty, melee diamonds are generally not individually valued in the resale market due to their small size and abundance.
Eye Clean Standard
In the diamond industry, the term "eye-clean" refers to a diamond that appears clear and free of inclusions or blemishes when viewed with the naked eye, from about 6-12 inches away, under normal lighting conditions. Essentially, if you can look at the diamond without seeing any imperfections without the aid of magnification, it is considered eye-clean. This standard is crucial for assessing a diamond's visual appeal and value.
Before sending your diamond to us, we encourage you to examine it closely to determine if it meets this eye-clean criterion. Here’s how you can check:
-
Find a Well-Lit Area: Natural daylight is best, but if that’s not possible, use a bright, indirect light source.
-
Clean Your Diamond: Ensure your diamond is clean. Dirt and smudges can mask or mimic imperfections.
-
Visual Inspection: Hold the diamond at a distance of about 6-12 inches from your eye. Look at it from various angles, paying close attention to the presence of any visible inclusions or blemishes.
If your diamond appears clear and free from visible imperfections to the naked eye, it likely meets the eye-clean standard. However, if you notice visible inclusions or blemishes, please be aware that the diamond may not qualify for our upgrade program under the eye-clean standard. In such cases, the client will be responsible for the costs associated with two-way shipping.
Timeline for Diamond Evaluation and Certification
The evaluation process for pre-owned diamonds typically spans approximately two weeks, although variations may occur based on the diamond's specific characteristics and the chosen evaluation service.
For diamonds submitted to the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) for grading, the standard turnaround time is generally one to two weeks. Diamonds featuring unique attributes, such as fancy shapes or unusual colors, may necessitate additional time for a comprehensive assessment.
GIA offers expedited grading services capable of reducing the evaluation period to as brief as one to two days. Be aware, these faster options incur extra fees and are subject to availability.
It's important to consider that shipping times, facilitated by FedEx, may introduce additional delays, especially when shipping within the USA. For submissions from outside the USA, the timeline may extend further due to the complexities of International shipping.
Deposit and Payment Process
Initiating your bespoke jewel purchase requires a 50% deposit, indicating your commitment to the upgrade program. Upon deposit, we will credit you for your pre-owned diamond through trusted services like Zelle, PayPal, etc., for flexibility. This deposit is separate from the credit received for the pre-owned diamond, ensuring a smooth transition as you embark on a journey of personalized craftsmanship with ILANIS.
Liability
ILANIS assumes no liability for loss or damage to pre-owned diamonds during the evaluation and upgrade process. Written permission is required for any necessary removal of diamonds from settings. We advise clients to independently insure their diamonds against potential risks.
Cancellation Policy
Once ILANIS purchases the pre-owned diamond and transfers funds to the client, the transaction is final and cannot be cancelled. The 50% deposit for new jewelry is non-refundable. Clients may select a different diamond or jewelry design during the upgrade process, adhering to the program’s terms. The value of the new piece must not be less than that of the original diamond chosen for the upgrade.
Final Provisions
Participation in the ILANIS Diamond Upgrade Program signifies acceptance of these terms and conditions. We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time without notice.
